Vineyard and Trellis Wire

Vineyard Wire and Trellis Wire

Vineyard wire or wire used in trellis systems is a focus product area for Southwestern Wire.  Vineyard and trellis wire is produced in a variety of gauge sizes, coating weights and packages, depending on what is needed for the particular vineyard or trellis system.  Southwestern Wire produces product that will fill the need of any type of trellis system or agricultural need. Southwestern Wire keeps in mind that there are as many different types of wire and trellis system as there are vineyards and growers, and we are able to produce what ever vineyard wire type that is requested.

Continuous vineyard wire for large operations

The standard or most commonly requested vineyard wire on the West Coast is continuous wire that is delivered on wire carriers containing 1,500 to 2,000 pounds of wire. The gauges of wire most generally used are, 14, 13, 12, 11 and 10 gauges with a Class I zinc coating.

Tensile Strength

The agricultural product being grown will sometimes dictate what strength of wire that will need to be used in a trellis system, or a trellis system designer may have a tensile preference to be used on a particular system.

170,000 PSI minimum

Vineyard wire with a minimum breaking strength of 170,000 PSI is requested when factors like fruit weight or distance between trellis supports are under consideration.

200,000 PSI minimum

Vineyard wire with a minimum breaking strength of 200,000 PSI can be needed when factors become extreme.

Continuous vineyard wire – Graded

The standard or most commonly requested vineyard wire is continuous wire that is delivered on wire carriers containing 1,500 to 2,000 pounds of wire. Graded continuous vineyard wire is requested, usually on the East Coast, when a range of wire tensile is desired along with a zinc coating weight of Class III. The gauges of wire most generally used are, 14, 13, 12, 11 and 10 gauges.

Grade 140

This grade of wire has properties with a minimum of 140,000 PSI breaking strength and a zinc coating weight of Class III.

Grade 180

This grade of wire has properties with a minimum of 180,000 PSI breaking strength and a zinc coating weight of Class III.

Grade 200

This grade of wire  has properties with a minimum of 200,000 PSI breaking strength and a zinc coating weight of Class III.

Layer wound Coils

Vineyard wire is also produced in 100 pound layer wound coils for applications in vineyard and trellis system requiring a shorter distance in the overall trellis length.  The standard West Coast application recommends a vineyard wire with a Class I coating weight. These applications do not require heavy equipment to string the vineyard wire, but do require some type of payoff system.
